Caring For and Finishing Your Pine Doors
Every door we make leaves the workshop fully sanded and unfinished, ready for you to stain, wax or paint. That keeps the price down and puts the final look in your hands, but it does mean the last few steps are yours. This guide covers everything we tell our customers over the phone: how to store your doors when they arrive, how to finish them properly, how to hang them, and what to expect from solid wood over the years.
If anything here raises a question about your particular order, ring us on 01270 829 179; you will be speaking to the people who made your doors.
Here are a few tips on door care from Mister Micawbers Cottage Doors located in Crewe.
-
24 to 48 hours before hanging the door, unpack and store them flat in a room
-
When applying finish to the doors, this should always be applied to all surfaces
-
Do not expose the doors to extreme climatic conditions (a room which is too hot / too cold)
-
Use flush hinges for hanging cupboard doors
-
Be aware that there will be slight shrinkage to the width of the door, anywhere one to one and a half millimetres due to surrounding humidity levels
NOTE: All dimensions with styles should be confirmed in the email to avoid possible sizing errors. We believe in the old saying ”You can always take a little off, but you can’t add a little on!"
