Mister Micawbers Cottage Doors is a traditional door-making workshop in Crewe, Cheshire. We make bespoke cupboard doors, wardrobe doors and drawer fronts to your exact dimensions, and deliver them throughout the UK.

If your kitchen carcasses or wardrobe frames are sound, there is no need to rip everything out. New made-to-measure doors transform the room at a fraction of the cost of a full replacement, and because every door is made individually, awkward sizes are never a problem. We regularly make angled-top doors, under-eaves and under-stairs doors, window shutters and bath panels, and we can now make bespoke internal doors in any of our styles.

Whether you are renovating a period cottage, fitting out a farmhouse kitchen, or replacing doors on a solid pine kitchen the big retailers no longer match, we make exactly what you need, to the millimetre.

Why solid wood, made by hand

Most replacement cupboard doors sold online are MDF or chipboard wrapped in a vinyl skin. Ours are not. Every door we make is solid timber throughout: Grade A pine from managed, renewable forests, with traditional glued joints that are stronger than the wood itself. Other hardwoods, such as oak, are available on request.

Solid wood earns its keep. It tolerates kitchen heat and steam without a foil skin to peel or bubble. Marks can be sanded out and refinished rather than sending the door to landfill. And because every door is supplied fully sanded, you choose the finish: wax it, stain it to match existing units, or paint it any colour, now and again in ten years' time.

How ordering works

  1. Measure. Measure your openings or existing doors in millimetres. Our rule of thumb: you can always trim a little off, but you cannot add a little on. Unsure? Ring us and we will talk you through it.
  2. Get your quote. Call 07979 854600 or 01270 829179, or email your dimensions and style. We confirm every order, with all sizes and styles, in writing before any timber is cut.
  3. We make your doors. You can pay for the orders through cheque, PayPal, or bank transfer (bank details will be provided on request). Each door is then made individually at our Cheshire workshop and hand-sanded ready to finish. Typical lead time is around 10 working days.
  4. Delivery. The balance is due on completion, then your doors are carefully packed and dispatched to your door, anywhere in the UK.
